Have you ever been to a social gathering, or a special occasion, and had the pleasure of tasting Baba Ganoush? Moments later, you've probably left the party, wondering how to make it yourself at home, or let alone, how to even pronounce it? Well, while you work on your pronunciation skills, (by the way, it's pronounced:"Bah-Bah Gaw (as in the word Aww) Nooh-Shh." I'm here to debunk the mysticism behind this deliciously addictive, yet appetizing dish!
Ingredients:
- 2 Large Eggplants(preferably male)
- 1/2 cup Tahini Paste
- 1/2 Lemon (juiced)
- 2 Garlic Cloves
- 1 Tspn Ground Cumin
- 1 Tbspn Olive Oil
For starters, let's talk Eggplants! Did you know that there is a way to tell if your eggplant is male, or female? Yes! That's right! It's true! Also, keep in mind, that the male eggplants, do not contain nearly as many seeds, as their female counterparts! Have you ever tasted eggplants that were slightly bitter, and caused the roof of your mouth an itchy sensation? That's because the eggplants used in those dishes were female, and since the bitterness is caused by the seeds, make sure you sex your eggplants before buying them. How can you tell the gender of an eggplant? It's simple! If the bottom of the eggplant has a horizontal gash-like marking, then, it's female. Male eggplants have a round dot at the bottom. Kind of like a belly button! Now, that I've demystified the cause of an eggplants bitterness, and I'm hoping you're still craving Baba Ganoush, why not go out and, buy some! Then, you can try my recipe, and dazzle your family, and friends(not to mention loved ones), with this new found talent! Cooking!
Oh, but wait! Before I go, here's another important tidbit of info.... In order to get the proper amount of char on your eggplants, it's very, very important for you to follow the method, using a grill guard! Oven roasting them, just won't work as effectively, and your eggplants, won't turn out the same. On the bright side, if you're thinking to yourself:"Hey, I'll just grill them, using my outdoor grill?" That's even better! Once you've tried this recipe, and succeeded, why not visit Food Cravings on YouTube, and leave a comment, and thumbs up on the video. Thanks, and enjoy!
